  • increase understanding of music therapy within the pediatric setting at a children's hospital including topics of general music therapy practice, music therapy interventions, and end of life support.

  • Participants will recognize how music therapy interventions can be utilized to support hospice patients and their families.

  • develop an understanding of how children uniquely present grief and how clinical music therapy plays a role in addressing children's need for self-expression and coping support.

Understanding Grief & Loss:

A Rough Guide

This presentation addresses the challenges that the bereaved often face in coping with the painful yearning of grief and of having their needs met by professionals, family, and friends. Having challenged the several misconceptions about the nature of loss, this talk explores what is known about the nature and course of grief, before concluding with an examination of best practices in alleviating the suffering of the bereaved.

2024 Pediatric Palliative
Care Webinar Series

As the number of children with chronic, complex and life-limiting illness continues to increase, the training needs of physicians and healthcare teams has increased as well. Many adult providers, family practitioners and smaller hospice teams have identified training as the leading barrier to their ability to provide end-of-life care to children. Larger systems with new or established pediatric palliative care (PPC) teams often struggle to find time for education or funding to support professional development

.A team from Pennsylvania’s Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (PPCC), Greater Illinois Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (GIPPCC), Children’s Hospice & Palliative Care Coalition of California (CHPCC), and the CSU Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care have collaborated to offer the PPC Webinar Series to raise the visibility of pediatric palliative care and to build clinicians’ competencies and confidence in providing care to children.
